Macdonald Realty was established in 1944 by John Macdonald and Al Steel as a boutique residential brokerage firm specializing in properties on Vancouver’s exclusive West Side. In 1974, Gregory Carros, a young entrepreneur, purchased the company and expanded the firm together with his partner Ronald Dick. By the late 1980s, the company had developed a very strong brand name and market presence in Vancouver, with a reputation for professional excellence already well established.

The company’s modern era began in 1990, under the leadership of Lynn Hsu and a new management team, who were all dedicated to creating a truly integrated real estate organization. The timing coincided with Vancouver’s emergence onto the international stage. In a few short years, the city went from “undiscovered jewel” to “international hotspot”, perched strategically on the Pacific Rim and attracting visitors, celebrities and investors from around the world.

Throughout the 90s, a series of mergers, acquisitions and strategic affiliations spurred MacDonald Realty’s growth throughout British Columbia. Building on our established strength and experience in residential sales, the new management group expanded the company’s business interests to include commercial sales and leasing, property management, development and project management, project marketing, luxury property marketing, mortgage brokering and lending, and training.

In the Fall of 2004, company leadership decided to pursue strategic franchise growth across Western Canada, which established MacDonald Realty in new markets in BC and Alberta. Today, MacDonald Realty has evolved into the most diversified brokerage, management and consultancy organization in Western Canada’s real estate industry.
